The Department was started with the establishment of the college. In the year 1967. The department has three sanction faculty posts. Presently Dr.V.D.Naganuri Assistant Professor working as a HOD of kannada .

The kannada Department strives to teach kannada Language and literature to match the subject with modern milieu. Its aim includes to stir not only the basis of the subject but also an inclination towards research, Kannada culture study center is established to achieve this goal.

The department has taken up three project works namely 1) Jananpeeth Awardee Dr. U.R.Anantmurthy 2) Exhibition of folk arts and 3) Centenary of Nadoj Dr. Patil Puttappa

The department has taken initiation in organizing special lectures for the students. During this year special lectures were organized. A lecture on Vachan Sahitya by Dr, Basappa Kumbar and Kuvempus literature and its rationality by Dr. G. S. Mariguddi, Vishwa Manav Dinacharne by Dr, Shreshail Mathapathi and Sahityad samshodhana vaidanikate by Dr. Prakash Girimallanavar and a Lecture On “Janapad Sahitya ,” Kavan Kattuva Bage. By Smt. M.Y. Patil. A Lecture on his poem –by Dr, Y.M.Yakolli and Halagannada Kavyagalu –by Dr. K.R Durgadas.

The Department has Orgnised a National webinar on Kuvempu Sahityadallim pratirodhad Nelegalu. National webinar on Janapad Sahityadalli Hasya.

Students were attended national seminar on the topic “litrerature of Ratnaka varni orgnised by RCU Belgavi and an students interaction session was organized with folk artist Dr. Chandrashekhar betgeri of gokak.

A Program for the convenience of the student was conducted. The previous question papers of various Examination like FDA, SDA, UPSC and KPSC were collected and shared with the students.

The faculty of the department is actively engaged in learning, teaching and reaserch activity. Shri D.T.Soglad has been appointed as permanent faculty in the year 2019. He has attended orientation and Refresher Program at Ramanujan University Delhi, and published one article. and attended national and international semina, state level seminars, workshops and FDA Program.

Dr. M.Y.Hiremath appointed as permanent faculty in 2021. She has attended orientation program at Ramanujan University Delhi, and attended National Seminars, and published two articles. Attended national and international seminar, state level seminars, workshops and FDA Program and presented papers in various seminars.

Dr. V. D. Naganuri HOD of the department has attended refresher and short term program at Karnataka University Dharwad and Sant Gadge baba University Amravati, and received best teacher award from Manav Bandutav Vedike in 2018, published 6 articles, attended national and international seminars, state level seminars, workshops, FDA Program, presented paper in various seminars. And worked as ‘BOE’ Member of Rani Channamma University belgavi , Lingraj College of Belgavi. And Treasurer of Kannada college Teacher Association of Rani Channamma University Belgavi. Worked as a Squad Committee Chairman of Rani Channamma University Belgavi. Worked as a ‘BOS’ member of Rani Channamma University Belgavi.

The teaching and learning process is supported by interactive methods like seminars, Group Discussions with the students, Guest lecturers from the subject experts of other colleges. The Lecture method is supported by interactive methods like class seminars, Group discussions, Guest Lectures and Study tours. Department had conducted various competitions like quiz competition, speech competition, Essay competition, and Pick and speak competition. Our students also participated in various competition conducted at other colleges.

During the Period 2016-17 to 2020-21, there are five research projects are undertaken involving students. Dr.(Smt.)P.V.Gadavi, HOD has participated in Six National/International Seminars and conferences and published three articles in International peer reviewed Journals. Also published six articles in various books. And Co-Editor of 2nd Semester Text Book Kavya Kalash. Dr.(Smt) P.V.Gadavi is also memebre in various bodies like B.O.S. Bangalore University, Member in International Hindi Parishdha. Madam has attended online short term course. “Hindi Day” is celebrated every year.

Majority of students offer Hindi as Basic subject and interested Students offer optional Hindi. The percentage of results is more than 90%. The departmental Library has 70 books which are circulated among the students. Many Students have completed post Graduation and working in different institutions.

All eligible students are admitted to B.A. Optional Economics,the medium of instructions is both English and Kannada. The majority of the students admitted are from rural background and belongs to border area of Karnataka and Maharashtra. The semester system was introduced in 2005-06 by replacing the annual system.New Education Policy (NEP) is introduced inKarnataka from 2020-21.

The percentage of results of the department varies between 80% to 100 % and the dropout rate is negligible.The common library makes provision for text books,reference books & Journals. Common Computer Laboratory is used by the students. Modern teaching aid like LCD is used during guest lectures and seminars.

The traditional lecture method is supported by interactive methods like Seminars,Group Discussions,Guest Lecture,Field Visits and Study tours. Small projects are given to students for practical experience. Teachers involve in personal counsellingof students and guide to prepare for exams,to develop competency and solve their problems.

Dr.D.S.Kamble, HOD has participated in various State /Nationalconferences and presented research papers and also published research papers in peer reviewed Journals.He has completed Orientation /Refresher/Faculty Development Course. Many students have completed Post Graduation and B.Ed. course and working at various institutions.

The Department of History was established in the year 2014. It is one of the major department in this esteemed Institute. Since 2014 it is providing quality education in History through live theory and practical classes. It conducts frequent field studies at surrounding places and study tours to Historical places. This gives genuine knowledge of ‘Indian’ and ‘Karnataka’ history to the students. It also conducts seminars and project works to provide value based education in History.

“Looking at the past only, one can move ahead” because history advise us to rectify the past mistakes. The department has made efforts to build careers of students. Majority of the students of the institute have progressed to higher studies and obtained jobs in various administrative departments.

All eligible students are admitted to B.A optional History, the medium of instruction is both English and Kannada. Majority of Students admitted are from rural background and belong to various sections of Society.

Presently Prof. N R Badiger is serving as the Head of Department. He has participated in State/ National Seminors & Conferencess, Work Shops.

The department is functioning since the establishment of the college. Shri. G.D Gadekai and Shri. G.L Badiger were served as teaching faculty and HOD’s since respectively 1987 & 1990. Shri. G.D Kadalagi is working as Guest Lecturer since Oct 2009. Shri. Maruti L. Mang has newly appointed and currently as an Assistant Professor and HOD since 18th July, 2019.

Majority of students come from rural and backward community. All students opt. for sociology as one of the optional subjects. There is a provision of teaching in both English and Kannada medium.

The department has established with the intention of social development & social reconstruction in the jurisdiction of the Institution. It stress on students ability to reach future goals and help to build new social atmosphere.

Results for the last five years are satisfactory and on an average 80%. Lecture, Group discussion and seminar methods are adopted in the teaching process. Rani Channamma University, Belagavi reviews syllabi and the same is adopted.

Shri Maruti L. Mang has attended more than 20 seminars, Workshops and conferences and presented 3 papers in National level seminar/conferences. He is pursuing Ph.D in RCUB. 04 papers published in National and International seminars/conferences. Shri G.D. Kadalagi has attended more than 15 seminars, Workshops and conferences and Worked as a Co-editor of Souvenir Book on National level seminar “Peasants Organization in India”, also worked as NSS Programme Officer.

Many students after completion of their Degree course have completed higher education and few of them are employed.
